| Physical Activity Programs Some countries in the Asia Pacific Region engage in the promotion of physical activity. In most of these countries experiences and progress in implementing physical activity interventions at large scale are in its early stages.
Existing physical activity programs are either designed as single-risk factor interventions focusing on physical inactivity only, or multi-risk factor interventions including other lifestyle factors (e.g. unhealthy diets, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, psychosocial stress).
Several countries (e.g. Thailand, Malaysia, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga) initiated programs as part of the implementation of a national action plan or strategy, such as for non-communicable disease prevention and control, health promotion, or physical activity promotion in particular. Some countries set up specific committees on physical activity promotion within a leading governmental or nongovernmental agency (e.g. the ministry of health, sport and/or education, nongovernmental organisation).
APPAN is currently gathering further information on national policies related to physical activity in countries in the Asia Pacific Region, to be disseminated in this section of the website.
