Physical Activity Prevalence
Regional Physical Activity Prevalence in the Asia-Pacific Region
Monitoring of physical activity is widely carried out in many countries. Levels of physical inactivity are a major risk factor for many chronic health problems, and physical inactivity contributes significantly to the Global Burden of Disease This report is a systematic compilation of national physical activity levels, reported through representative population surveys, in
Asia and Pacific nations. It is not a methodological review, as data are presented from diverse surveys and samples, even within a single country. The data are shown to inform decision and policy makers in the Asia-Pacific region interested in physical activity. Important implications include the need for standardised survey methods and questions, and repeating these to obtain accurate population trend information. Trend data can be used to assess the impact of population-level efforts and programs targeting physical activity.
